Memoirs of a Geisha (2005) Movies, TV, Celebs, and more... The film comes to life whenever the cartoonishly vindictive Gong throws a tantrum, but she played virtually the same role in Zhang Yimou's "Shanghai Triad," which presented a far more compelling rationale for her star fits. The film is an adaptation of the immensely popular Arthur Golden novel, and is about as faithful as a two-plus hour movie could be. There's no doubting that Memoirs of a Geisha is a lush motion picture, and it has much to recommend it, but this will not go down as one of the great screen romances of the 2000s. 10/12/2005 · In the 1920s, 9-year-old Chiyo gets sold to a geisha house. There, she is forced into servitude, receiving nothing in return until the house's ruling hierarchy determines if she is of high enough quality to service the clientele -- men who visit and pay for conversation, dance and song. 15/12/2005 · I suspect that the more you know about Japan and movies, the less you will enjoy "Memoirs of a Geisha." Much of what I know about Japan I have learned from Japanese movies, and on that basis I know this is not a movie about actual geishas, but depends on the romanticism of female subjection. Memoirs of a Geisha is not a traditional Japanese movie, slow, somber and with a tragic ending: it has a good direction pace and ends with a (almost) happy ending, all accompanied by costumes, music, set design, photography and editing of high quality. When Chiyo becomes the beautiful Sayuri (very well played by an intense and credible Zhang Ziyi), the

I loved Memoirs of a Geisha, both the book and the movie are excellent! How the child grows in a Geisha house and how different it is from her sister's life is amazing to read. I really appreciated the costume work in the movie and the writing in the book. This is one of the best book to movie crossovers. Memoirs of a Geisha hurts the heart and the brain with its crushing monotony, inert, sub-human dialogue and Marshall's calculated attempt to sell us another Hollywood fairytale of prostitution. [Discontinued] Vamp (What Katie Did) Corset Database However be realistic about this – at the time I review, I could lace down to about 22″ yet I was modelling an 18″ corset which was admittedly too small for me, as my ribcage and hips were broader than the corset.
